Your massage table is one of the most important investments in your practice. You’ve probably spent hours researching which table best suits your needs to ensure you make the right choice.
Now that you've purchased a massage table, you’ll want to keep it in top condition for as long as possible. In this article, we’ll give you essential tips to ensure your massage table lasts for years!
Massage Table Upholstery

To protect your massage table, we highly recommend using a fitted sheet. A terry cloth or cotton fitted sheet is the most durable and comfortable option. Using a sheet prevents massage oil from coming into direct contact with the table’s upholstery, which also improves hygiene.
The fibers in PU leather or vinyl break down over time when exposed to oils. This significantly shortens the lifespan of your massage table. The top layer of the upholstery can harden, crack, or peel. Try to minimize contact between the table and massage oil.
When cleaning your massage table, avoid using strong chemical cleaners. Just like oil, these can damage the fabric by causing it to deteriorate.
If you want to be extra careful, clean your massage table with warm water and mild soap. Make sure there are no soap residues left on the upholstery and dry the table thoroughly after cleaning.
However, the cleaning products you can use depend on the type of upholstery:
For PVC vinyl leather: You can use a low-alcohol disinfectant, such as Bacillol Foam 30. However, avoid using it multiple times per day, as it can still wear down the material.
For PU leather: Do not use Bacillol Foam 30!
Another great option is Röwo massage table cleaner, a German-made product specifically designed for massage tables. However, since it contains alcohol, use it sparingly to prevent damage. Test it on a small area of the table first if you’re unsure.
Never use 70% or 80% alcohol to disinfect your massage table, as this will instantly ruin the leather.
Massage Table Frame
If you have an aluminum massage table, maintenance is minimal. The strength and durability of aluminum allow the frame to last for years.
If you have a wooden massage table, you will need to pay attention to upkeep to prevent cracking over time.
How to Maintain a Wooden Massage Table
- Check the screws every few months, especially if you rarely adjust the table height.
- Ensure the screws are tight and that the wood is not warping.
- Inspect all hinges to make sure they are functioning properly.
If the legs of your table get scratched from frequent transport, you can fix this easily. Rub a peeled walnut over the scratches—the natural oils will make the legs look like new again.
Massage Table Mattress
In general, not much maintenance is needed for the foam padding of your massage table.
However, one simple trick can extend the life of the mattress.
Since the headrest of most massage tables can be attached on both sides, you can switch the table’s orientation regularly. This distributes wear evenly and prolongs the foam’s lifespan.
By following these maintenance tips, your massage table will remain in top condition for years.
